Silicon Valley Business Journal reports that because of the continuing rapid growth in tech jobs in addition to the growth in professional services fields and lower-paying service sector jobs, it has intensified the competition for housing at all income levels. “The rental housing market is especially hard-pressed, with dual demand from well-paid tech talent seeking low-maintenance rentals and low- or middle-income residents priced out of home ownership.”

Axiometrics estimates that Silicon Valley rents for units of all sizes are up an average of $390 per month since June 2012. The current $2,500 rental range represents shows an average increase of $235 per month in the last year alone.

Storm Warning: Prepare Your Rental Property

High Wind Warning in effect from 10 pm Wednesday to 10 pm PST Thursday.

The National Weather Service in the San Francisco Bay Area has issued a High Wind Warning, which is in effect from 10 pm Wednesday to 10 pm PST Thursday. The High Wind Watch is no longer in effect.

  • Timing: winds increasing Wednesday evening with the strongest winds expected overnight across the North Bay, increasing to the south through Thursday.
  • Winds: winds of 25 to 35 mph with local gusts to around 50 mph for urban locations. Winds of 30 to 50 mph with local gusts greater than 80 mph for higher elevation locations.
  • Impacts: widespread downed trees, falling power lines creating the potential for power outages, potential property damage, and difficult driving conditions.

Happy Thanksgiving: Avoid Grease Down The Drains

With all the wonderful things Thanksgiving has to offer, such as turkey dinners, family gatherings, and football, there are some things you need to be cautious of in your home. For household drains and aging sewers, the worse thing you can do is put your excess grease down the pipes, and into the sewers.

In the heat of the moment and in the chaos in the kitchen, the simplest way to get rid of fat from turkeys, bacon and roasts is down the kitchen drain. There it will remain clogging the pipe and trapping food scraps until the only solution is to call the plumber.

The best solution is to save a tin can and wait for the grease to cool a bit before pouring in in. It will eventually solidify, and at that point you can throw in in the trash. No plumbing issues, no calls to the plumber, but lots and lots of leftovers!

Many landlords want to know whether or not it is a good idea to allow future tenants to have a pets in the property. We always start by saying, there are positives and negatives to both.
